The AI enablement role companies are quietly hiring for
A new role is showing up across job boards that doesn't have a settled title yet, but a consistent shape: someone who builds the infrastructure that lets a team use AI effectively, rather than everyone running their own version of the same prompt. Samsara is hiring for a "context layer" — a structured source of truth for messaging, ICP, and positioning that a marketing team and its AI tools can draw on. Sonar wants someone who sits with marketers, learns the day-to-day, and automates the highest-leverage parts. GWI calls it a "Growth Marketing OS." GitLab has posted an "AI Transformation Owner" role into the field org. The pattern isn't limited to marketing — finance teams and company-wide AI enablement seats show the same job in different departments.
Across dozens of these postings, three responsibilities recur:
- Building a context layer. Shared skills, prompt libraries, and a single source of truth for messaging and process, so a 40-person team isn't running 40 versions of the same prompt.
- Connecting the tools. Marketing and GTM work still spans calendars, decks, the CRM, and Slack — all of which now have some agentic capability. Someone has to wire them together, evaluate new tools, and make the connections actually work for the people using them.
- Staying current on AI. The tooling changes fast. Someone needs to track what's working, bring it into the stack, and retire what isn't.
For agent builders, this is a role worth tracking: it's evidence that companies want to move faster with AI than an individual ChatGPT workspace allows, and are willing to hire specifically for the infrastructure work that makes that possible.
